Conference Strength Gaps

The gap between top-tier Power Five conferences and smaller programs is enormous. An AI model needs to account for strength of schedule, not just raw win-loss records. A 7-5 SEC team may be stronger than a 10-2 Sun Belt team.

How Rovnic’s AI Handles NCAAF

Our college football prediction model uses conference-adjusted metrics, recruiting rankings as a proxy for talent level, and returning production data to account for roster turnover. We also incorporate spread and total line data from the betting market as additional features.

The model achieved 69.8% test accuracy on historical NCAAF data — significantly above the ~50% baseline. This is partly because college football has more blowouts and predictable mismatches than pro leagues.
